The Surprising Europe project wants to contribute to the debate about migration from Africa to Europe, and create awareness about the real life of Africans in Europe.
The documentary Surprising Europe, the life and times of Ssuuna Golooba tells the story of the successful photojournalist Ssuuna Golooba. He left his wife, children and job in Uganda, and moved to Europe in the hope of a better future. There, he realized Europe was not very eager to welcome him.
The Surprising Europe television series portrays the lives of African migrants in Europe. The Surprising Europe television series will be broadcasted worldwide on Al Jazeera English from August 8, 2011. Broadcast times: on Mondays 10.30 PM, on Tuesdays 9.30 AM, on Wednesdays 3.30 AM, and on Thursdays 4.30 PM GMT. From July 8 on Dutch public television every Friday at 4.30 PM on Ned 2 (Human).
SurprisingEurope.com is born from an idea by Ugandan journalist Ssuuna Golooba. The online community is run by Surprising Europe, a non-profit organization based in the Netherlands.
