Comrade Sunny Ofehe is a Rotterdam based activist who is internationally known for his fierce criticism of multinational oil companies operations in his native Niger Delta that has left the environment devastated and the people impoverished. He has taken his campaign to international conferences including testifying at the Dutch Parliament on Shell's operation in the Niger Delta and also at various event at the European Parliament in Brussels.
His activism has taken him to remote areas of the Niger Delta creeks at very great danger to document activities for the world to see. He has made some short documentaries that can be found on youtube and his websites. In 2007, his 60 year old mother was assasinated in their family home in Nigeria. He has remained dogged and committed to the struggle of his people's emancipation.
In February 2011, his house was raided by the Dutch arrest team and locked up for fourteen days on thrump-up charges that himself and his supporters have considered a political persecution for his outspokenness against the oil cartel. he has remained defiant in the face of a possible court action.
He is the founder and current Executive Director of an nongovernmental organisation called Hope for Niger Delta Campaign with office in Rotterdam. He is married with four children.
