Fellow friends and well wishers, some or all of you may be aware that I was arrested by the Dutch Police last February and detained for 14 days for charges…

Fellow friends and well wishers, some or all of you may be aware that I was arrested by the Dutch Police last February and detained for 14 days for charges which among Human Trafficking, Fraud and most outrageously Conspiracy to Commit Terrorist Act in the Niger Delta, Nigeria by blowing up oil pipelines.

For all those who knows me and follow my activism as a Human and Environmental campaigner knows I am not a criminal. This arrest came less than a month after a testified against the Dutch Oil giant Shell at the Dutch Parliamentary Hearing in January in The Hague. I have always said my arrest was politically motivated and the charges are baseless!

I have to let you know that the Dutch Police investigated me for almost two years without me knowing. In this time they wire-tapped my telephones (both mobile, office and house phones), they broke into my car and installed devices to listen and track my car easily, the placed a vehicle in front of my office with surveillance camera and also entered my office without my knowledge. The employed the services of a Nigerian informant who gave them bogus information. In all 25 officers investigated me. The question is what where they looking for? Why will they invest such huge resources, manpower and high investigative technique on a common man like me?

Finally, I am having a date in court on Monday 5th September 2011 at 14:30 in Rotterdam. I am inviting anyone who will like to attend since it will be an open trial. As a prelude to the trial, the Dutch television programme EenVandaag on Nederland 1 will be reporting more details about myself and the court case on Saturday 3rd September at 18:15. Comrade Sunny Ofehe is a Rotterdam based activist who is internationally known for his fierce criticism of multinational oil companies operations in his native Niger Delta that has left the environment devastated and the people impoverished. He has taken his campaign to international conferences including testifying at the Dutch Parliament on Shell's operation in the Niger Delta and also at various event at the European Parliament in Brussels.

His activism has taken him to remote areas of the Niger Delta creeks at very great danger to document activities for the world to see. He has made some short documentaries that can be found on youtube and his websites. In 2007, his 60 year old mother was assasinated in their family home in Nigeria. He has remained dogged and committed to the struggle of his people's emancipation.

In February 2011, his house was raided by the Dutch arrest team and locked up for fourteen days on thrump-up charges that himself and his supporters have considered a political persecution for his outspokenness against the oil cartel. he has remained defiant in the face of a possible court action.

He is the founder and current Executive Director of an nongovernmental organisation called Hope for Niger Delta Campaign with office in Rotterdam. He is married with four children.
