Farouk Daku, a 26-year-old middleweight from Uganda, comes from a boxing family. But practicing his sport professionally was difficult in his home country. Daku moved to the Netherlands, where he is now boosting his career.

Daku: “Boxing is more popular in Uganda than in the Netherlands, but here are more chances of fighting on a world level. I have been in Amsterdam for only five months but I can already fight for a junior world title. My  coach Raymond Joval  is also a former world champion.”

Love brings Daku to Europe
He came to the Netherlands in January 2011, with his wife Sanne. They met when she was on a holiday in Uganda.  “I first saw  her at the Little Flowers Arena in Kampala in 2010, when was fighting against the Tanzanian boxer Oswald Maneno. We fell in love and she suggested that I should stay with her in Holland as I would also have more opportunities to build up my boxing career. She supports me in everything”

On June 4, Daku is fighting against the undefeated super-middleweight champion Gevorg Khatchikian in Kerkrade. He is training intensively for the big day. “Every morning I run for one and a half hour, in the afternoon I go to the gym. In the evening I meet with my coach. My boxing record is fit for a world title”
