I understand this topic. I feel ashamed that I haven’t seen my country for 21 years.. The main reason is because I don’t have my Masters Diploma yet and because I have not build a strong career yet in Europe. But, I do not let the shame stop me! I train myself by following training courses, I educate myself and I make a lot of friends with the locals (white business man). To get noticed by them, you have to talke and think like them.
as for me i never feel ashamed cuz every thing is time
why should i feel embarrassed? the problem with africans is that they dont know that they can become rich in their respective countries, africa is a developing market and that is where the money is but because of the rush to travel out they end up wasting their precious opportiunities in the so called developed world working 3- 4 jobs a day where as in their respective countries they cant do that.
Big money will never come. People who tell you success stories are telling lies. The only way to get big money is to be involved in criminal activities. And I mean real criminal activities (fraud, major drug trafficking, etc.). Chances to get a normal legal job in Europe are very few. And I mean just a job for which they pay some EUR2,000 a month. And, with today's prices, it is nothing. If you want to stay on the right side of the law, forget about getting big money.
There are unquestionably those who've made it materialistically in europe and those who haven't. What people need to understand is understand is your success or failure cannot be compared to anyone, because you do not know how that person got there. The person might have given you an insight of his/her way there, but you can never be sure whether he/she has given you the whole truth.
It is most important to be consistence, honest and faithful to yourself, because if you are you will be honest with others. I do not want to judge and spread theoretical propaganda here, but people should not be embarrased if they are not receiving the money they are expected to send back home. It is all in our hands to train, sensitize and create awareness in our families back in Africa. We should avoid telling of the lives and expereiences of our friends and relatives, but our own. If one is cleaning toilets to earn that money tell people back home, you are cleaning toilets for that money and not working with the stock exchange! Describe things as they are and not as they might be.
Unfortunately it has been in the order of the day in the past that africans felt ashamed to go back home, because they have not acquired that wealth that was expected of them by their own families. Africans live the lives their families want them to live and not always the kind they personally would like to live. When will we as persons start living for our own selves?
I have studied here and currently have a fulltime job, but I only send money home when it is very much required e.g. when there is a fundraising for a certain hospital bill, school fees etc, but I don't take up full bills on my own, Why, because I have trainde my family to rely on themselves and find their own way out if something comes up, I have a life to live too!
