Episode 1: Taking The Leap

Africans who come to Europe. How do they do it, passing border controls and dangerous seas?

In Coming to Europe the Kenyan rapper K-Nel presents portraits and reports about Africans who come to Europe. Some of them have their plans all figured out, others are not prepared at all. Surprising Europe takes a look at the borders of Europe.

Ugandan photojournalist Ssuuna Golooba prepares himself for his journey to Amsterdam as a migrant. He enters Europe on a tourist visa. Now he has to go house hunting. Dayo from Nigeria arrived in Malta after a dangerous boat trip. He’s been living and working in a detention centre for seven months, waiting for his residence permit. The borders in Europe might be open, but the border between France and England is not. In Calais, France, the British border control uses high tech devices and sniff dogs to detect stowaways in trucks. Rapper Scor.pi.o gives his vision on life in Europe as an African migrant in his track ‘Be informed before you come’.
